Sae Yeoun Hwang (b. 1994) is an artist based in London. She received her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2020. Her work often begins with an emotional impulse drawn from navigating her surroundings and expands into fragmented narratives. Through painting and text, she navigates states of in-betweenness: between cultures, identities, languages, and emotional registers. Exaggerated expressions and stylised gestures appear throughout her practice as a way to access what feels too complex or too quiet to name directly. Pain, discomfort, and absurdity coexist in her images, often layered with a strange tenderness.
