Sae Yeoun Hwang (b. 1994) works in London and Seoul. She has received her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2020. Her works function as non-linear visual stories. She is interested in humour and how it functions, she questions what makes something funny and who gets the joke. She also uses humour to diffuse the heaviness of the subject and explore its role as a defense mechanism. She explores the thin line between personal experience and universality. She was once told her work is like propaganda for the slacker generation.
